Indian heavy lifting crane and rental provider ABG Cranes has recently launched a brand new factory in Mumbai to produce its own brand of crawler and dockside heavy lifting cranes.
The first heavy lifting crane to roll off the production line is the eighty tonne, 1080 hydraulic crane.
According to ABG Cranes managing director Gopal Datt Dobhal, the company designed and developed the crane itself. It offers a thirteen – fifty-eight metre lattice boom and a nine – eighteen metre fixed jib system.
Two units had been manufactured at the facility, which has the ability to produce one hundred crane units per year, up to 250 tonnes capacity. It is predicted that ten units of the eighty tonne 1080 crawler system will be constructed by March 2010.
Huge ship to shore heavy lifting cranes and rubber tyre gantries will also be produced in the factory in the not so distant future. The consumer market will then be approached for the potential mass production of the larger models.
ABG Industries, the parent company believe the 1080 heavy lifting unit should be in the market to challenge Chinese comparisons and also claim the unit will rival those manufactured in the West.

UK based PD Ports has been congratulated for its recent management of a very special heavy load project cargo, which arrived into the Hull Container Terminal on the ‘Beluga Federation’ ship in June.
PD Ports was awarded the initial business through Transcar Projects Ltd a well respected international freight company, with a request to handle the special project cargo. The contract was won despite huge competition from other companies based on the Humber.
The special cargo was expected at the Saltend BP power station for which it was required as part of the power station’s cooling system.
The project involving the Beluga Federation, which transported the project cargo from Kandla, India, was completed in three days and involved the management of 4 heavy lifts, two weighing up at 135 tons each and two at 94 tons each. Another 73 cargo lifts of up to 37 tons each were also removed from the vessel.
The heavy lifting gear project called drew upon the wider resources of the PD Ports Group and involved the skills and disciplines of HCT and Middlesbrough based experts who reliably ensured the whole project went without any untoward incident or disruption to other commitments being conducted on the port terminal.
PD Ports has managed HCT since the early nineties and last year they entered a new contract to operate HCT for another 8 years. This will include fro its entirety about £4 million extral investment by PD Ports to upgrade the overall efficiency of its systems.

Could We See the Mini Brand Breaking New Ground
The Mini has once of the most famous backgrounds and pedigrees in the motor industry and now there is speculation that it is set to break even more new ground if stories are true about a 4×4 version of the car are proved to be true.
Rumours were sparked sometime ago but the latest reports also indicate that BMW, the new owners of the Mini brand have taken possession of the Countryman and ActiveE official trademarks.
Those of us who are old enough to remember the original Countryman vehicles will recall how it originated from the classic Austin Seven. The first Austin Seven Countryman rolled off the production lines back in 1960 and became a cult car of its time along with the Morris Mini Traveller.
There have also been talks about BMW launching a 4×4 Mini with the Crossman badge and many are hoping the new 4×4 Mini will be ready for official launch at this years motor show in Frankfurt.
